lush and the body shop - oily skin remedies

i've been struggling with my skin for as long as i can remember, but for the the past two months in particular, despite now drinking between 2L and 3L of water a day, my T zone, nose and chin have gone into serious oil overdrive!

i had started using the liz earle hot cloth cleanse range, with the toning water - and found it did improve my skins balance, however to try and keep on top of cleaning the muslin cloths, i found it quite a chore, and using not a fresh muslin each time really didn't help in keeping my hormonal breakouts under control!

after browsing online at all the big beauty brand names - clarins, clinique, kiehl's - a friend recommended lush - a brand who i will be honest, i have never considered for anything else other than bath bombs!

i decided to visit the leeds white rose center store with one product in mind in particular which had been recommended to me - coal face - but i was looking to replace my current cleanse, tone and moisturise routine, with more natural products, with no nasties in them!

the staff were all so helpful in the store (i wish i had taken down the name of the assistant who served me!). they asked about my concerns in particular with my skin, and showed me through a few different products to help combat oily skin, and reduce my pores.

after about 20 mins in the store, and so many demonstrations of products, i decided to purchase the following, having been completely converted to lush products from then on!;
  • coalface soap - which smells incredible! i really liked the idea of using a coal based product to combat the oil and also exfoliate, with the addition of the rosewood oil to work against my blemishes.
  • tea tree water toner spray - tea tree is always top of my list for its antibacterial properties, this spray also has juniper-berry which is an antiseptic and grapefruit - which smells lovely and fresh! i bought this product to use as a toner, after cleansing my face with coalface.
i was also given testers of vanishing cream, to use as a moisturiser - having oily skin i have stayed well away from moisturising my face for years and years, so trying to get into a routine of using a light one. i do really like the vanishing cream, though it does feel a bit thick, online is does say it's used to hide fine lines - which isn't really what i'm trying to do. i think after researching online i'm swaying more towards the enzymion cream as is has fresh lemon in, which i really think would help balance the oils more.

another tester i was given was the ultrabland, again a really highly recommended product, but i feel the coalface works better for me as a cleanser. the ultrabland you rub onto your skin dry, and then wash off with a damp cotton bud.

finally i popped into body shop, having seen their seaweed collection online, as a range designed for oily skin sufferers. i particularly wanted to pick up their seaweed oil balancing clay mask, and as the skincare collections were on a 3 for 2 offer, i also picked up the seaweed day cream and the tea tree night ointment.

i have used the seaweed day cream today, very sparingly on my T zone and nose. my skin does feel much less oily, however i do think tomorrow i will try apply this all over my forehead and also my chin - but it really does feel so much better, i am just wary of over drying my skin with this product. i am yet to try the mud mask, i think this might be part of friday night routine - take off my makeup, cleanse and then apply the mud mask as a way of drawing out all the impurities from the working week.

i'm really looking forward to seeing how these products work for me over the next week or so, looking forward to having a cleaner feeling face, smaller pores and less oil!
